HAITIAN REVOLUTION: Art of the Haitian Global South showcases the immense talent of the Haitian Diaspora, as well as aspects of Haitian history and spirituality. Curated by filmmaker and founder of the Haiti International Film Festival, Jacquil Constant, the exhibition displays works by twenty-five Haitian and Haitian America artists. Artworks include historical portraits of the ancestors of Haiti's Independence and the creolization of Haitian culture; images of and by Haitian women showing them as the “poto mitan” (center of the family) restoring their communities through their love and dedication; Haitian Realist works that depict life in Haiti; Magic Realist visions of people living their everyday lives on the island nation surrounded by unpolluted waters, peace, and plenty; and Constant’s own award-winning film, Haiti Is A Nation of Artists, about the transformational art created after the devastating earthquake of 2010.
HAITIAN REVOLUTION: Art of the Haiti Global South, 2025 is part of the SUR:BIENNIAL, a presentation of works by local and international artists influenced by the artistic traditions of Mexico, Central & South America, and the Caribbean.
