“Making art brings me comfort—it helps me see and make sense of what I feel and experience.

I enjoy mixing media, and working with sculptural elements. I am inspired by the process of

making, with the many subtle choices that come with creation—what color draws you, what

medium, where you want to put a shape, what image feels most potent in the moment. I enjoy

working with a variety of media; the texture and sculptural quality of my work is satisfying. I

enjoy building up the canvases, layer by layer, allowing different textures to reflect changing

emotions.

In the midst of challenging times with covid, I had fertility challenges. Art making brought me

comfort, and it helped me to connect with my Resilience. These canvas pieces are from a series

called “Monthlies” where I worked on one canvas over the course of the month as it ties to my

menstrual cycle. I allowed each canvas to hold the range of feelings as I hoped to become

pregnant, and at times anticipated the disappointment of not being pregnant.

While working with the group around Resilience, I realize that in the midst of challenging times,

I may not feel resilient, but my art images help show me my resilience. Both seeing my images

and allowing my images to be seen by others helps me connect with my own strength.”
